Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions about PassNote.
What is PassNote?
PassNote is a free, secure password manager for iOS and Android. It lets you store passwords, bank card details, and private notes — all encrypted end-to-end with AES-256-GCM so only you can access them.
Is my data safe? Can PassNote read my passwords?
No. PassNote uses a zero-knowledge architecture. Your data is encrypted on your device before it ever reaches our servers. We never have access to your encryption key, so we literally cannot read your passwords — even if we wanted to.
What happens if I forget my encryption key?
Unfortunately, your data will be permanently inaccessible. Because PassNote uses zero-knowledge encryption, we have no way to recover your key or your data. This is by design to ensure maximum security.
We strongly recommend writing your encryption key down and storing it somewhere safe offline, and using the Key Hint feature to help jog your memory.
How does sync across devices work?
PassNote syncs your encrypted vault to the cloud via Firebase Firestore. When you sign in on another device with the same Google account and provide your encryption key, your passwords are downloaded and decrypted locally on that device.
Your encryption key is never sent to the server — only encrypted data travels over the network.
Does PassNote work offline?
Yes. Once your vault is loaded, you can view and search your passwords without an internet connection. An internet connection is only required when you sign in for the first time on a new device or when syncing changes.
Is PassNote free? Are there any subscriptions?
PassNote is free to use and supported by ads. There is an optional one-time Premium upgrade that removes ads and unlocks additional features — no recurring subscription ever.
Which platforms does PassNote support?
PassNote is available on Android (6.0 and above) and iOS (12.0 and above). Download it from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
How do I delete my account and data?
Go to the Profile tab inside PassNote and tap Delete Account. You'll be asked to type "DELETE" to confirm. Once deleted, all your encrypted passwords are permanently removed from our servers and cannot be recovered.
